Residents Service Guidelines
Waste Management of Nevada provides waste collection services to the residents of the City of Fernley and areas of unincorporated Churchill County. We are dedicated to providing quality service and to participating in the communities we serve.
About Waste Management of Nevada
Waste Management of Nevada is a community-based provider of environmental solutions. As the leading provider for commercial and residential curbside collection for disposal, Waste Management of Nevada delivers local solutions with the knowledge and resources of nation’s largest waste removal company, Waste Management. For over a decade, Waste Management of Nevada has employed over 300 employees in the region. In April 2012, Waste Management opened the Landfill Gas-to-Energy facility at the Lockwood Regional Landfill. It produces 3.2 megawatts of electricity that powers more than 1,800 homes by using landfill gases. The Lockwood Regional Landfill is also a Wildlife Habitat Council site that provides protection for various raptors in northern Nevada.
All single-family residences are provided a 96-gallon cart. Please place all carts at curbside by 6:00 am on your scheduled collection day. Lids must be closed, and the lid opening must face the street. Cart should be placed at least two feet apart and three feet away from parked cars or objects. As a courtesy to your neighbor, promptly remove carts after service.
Do not place the following materials in your carts:
- Hazardous waste (products labeled toxic, poison, corrosive, flammable, or irritant)
- Automotive batteries
- Hot ashes
- Infectious waste (including used needles)
- Dead animals (weighing more than 10 lbs.)
If these materials are found in the cart, it will be tagged with a non-collection notice and will not be serviced. It will then be the responsibility of the resident to make the correction and contact Waste Management for service.
You can recycle your CFL bulbs, batteries and electronics easily. Signup for our Think Green From Home programs by visiting www.thinkgreenfromhome.com to get started.
Maximum Weight Limits
96-gallon carts should not exceed 250 pounds. To avoid exceeding the cart’s weight limitation or causing possible damage to the cart or collection vehicle, do not place rocks, concrete, bricks or dirt inside carts. Any items placed in the cart must fall out easily when the cart is being serviced. Please do not overfill or tightly pack items into the cart.
If the cart exceeds the weight limit, the driver will attempt service and will notify the resident of the problem by leaving a non-collection notice attached to the cart. However, if we are unable to empty the cart, the cart will be tagged and marked as “overweight.” It will then be the responsibility of the resident to make the correction and contact Waste Management for service.
Resident Responsibility for Cart
Each resident is responsible for the proper care and security of his or her waste cart. Customers will be charged to replace carts that are damaged or destroyed other than through normal usage. Please contact Customer Service for cart replacements.
Customers will not experience service delays on holidays.
